Key takeaways
- We rank on five published criteria: transparent pricing, cost certainty, time to live, provider neutrality, and governance built in.
- We are one of the firms in this list. We say where, and we say when to pick someone else.
- The right firm depends on whether you need an assistant rollout, workflow automation, ongoing advice, or a Microsoft-specific build.
- All prices are taken from each firm's own website in October 2026.
Search for the best AI consultants for small business and almost every list you find was written by one of the firms on it, usually ranked first, with no stated method. This list has the same conflict, because we are an AI implementation company. The difference we can offer is that the criteria are written down, the prices are the firms' own published figures, and every entry says who it suits and who it does not.
How this list was made. We have no commercial relationship with any other firm listed. Information comes from each firm's public website as checked in October 2026. If you represent a listed firm and something is out of date, use our contact form and we will correct it. Last reviewed: October 2026.
The criteria
- Transparent pricing. Prices are published before you get on a call.
- Cost certainty. The fee is fixed before work starts, rather than open-ended hourly billing.
- Time to live. How quickly something is working and in use, not just documented.
- Provider neutrality. Advice is not tied to one vendor's licences.
- Governance built in. Spend caps, admin controls, usage policy and training are part of the work, not extras.
These criteria reflect what we think a small or mid-sized business should care about. They also happen to favour our model, which is why we built it that way. Judge for yourself whether they are the right criteria for you.
The ranking
1. Get Working With AI: best for a fixed-price assistant rollout
Published pricing: Clarity Package 500 USD (business case and detailed implementation plan). Implementation Package 5,000 USD (provider chosen and configured, hard spending limits, admin portal and optional SSO, employee guide and live training), live in 30 days or less.
Choose us when you want ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or Gemini rolled out properly across a team, with the spend capped and staff trained, for a known price and date.
Choose someone else when you need custom software built on a model API, or a long programme of workflow automation across many systems. We are deliberately narrow.
2. AIessentials: best for priced workflow automation
Published pricing: AI audit and roadmap 1,500 USD. Individual workflow automations 300 to 3,747 USD. A company-wide "AI Operating System" 3,490 to 6,990 USD. Team training 400 to 1,000 USD per day. Hourly advice 150 USD. A typical complete engagement is quoted at 10,000 to 15,000 USD. Every build carries a stated 60-day money-back guarantee tied to outcomes agreed up front.
Choose them when you are a B2B small or mid-sized business and the goal is automating specific workflows such as lead qualification, quoting or customer service. The firm states it works with businesses doing over 300,000 USD in annual revenue.
Consider alternatives when the main need is a governed rollout of an assistant to all staff rather than automation.
3. Iternal: best for ongoing advisory
Published pricing: advisory hours 100 to 300 USD. Quick-Win Sprint, one use case implemented end to end in typically two to six weeks, 2,500 to 10,000 USD. Fractional AI advisor 1,500 to 8,000 USD a month. A free AI Blueprint Builder tool. Tooling is billed separately.
Choose them when you want a continuing advisor across several initiatives rather than a one-off project.
Consider alternatives when you want a single fixed price for a complete rollout. Their larger strategy programmes are priced for much bigger organisations.
4. Copilot Experts (Empathy Technologies): best for Microsoft-only businesses
Published pricing: fixed-fee Copilot readiness assessments from 1,500 to 8,000 GBP, with phased implementation pricing quoted separately. A free readiness assessment is offered.
Choose them when you have committed to Microsoft 365 Copilot and need depth in Copilot Studio, Power Automate and SharePoint.
Consider alternatives when you have not yet decided between providers. As a Microsoft partner, their focus is the Microsoft stack.
5. AI Adopt Centres (Australia): best free option, if you are eligible
Pricing: free specialist services for eligible Australian SMEs, including training, one-to-one consultations, adoption roadmaps and technology demonstrations. Eligibility is aimed at SMEs that trade interstate or internationally in National Reconstruction Fund priority sectors, and some centres also offer paid services.
Choose them when you are an eligible Australian SME, particularly in manufacturing, agriculture, medical science or regional industries. Free, government-backed advice is hard to beat as a first step.
Consider alternatives when you need the configuration and rollout done for you rather than advice and a roadmap.
Categories rather than firms
Your existing IT provider
Strong on identity, permissions and licensing. Usually lighter on provider choice, usage policy and adoption. Often the right partner for half the job. See AI consultant vs your IT provider.
Large consultancies
Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG, IBM and McKinsey all have large AI practices. They are the right choice for regulated, multi-jurisdiction or assurance-heavy work, and usually oversized for an assistant rollout in a business of under a few hundred people. See Big Four vs boutique AI consultancy.
Freelancers
Freelance marketplaces have capable AI specialists at lower rates. Quality varies widely, and you carry the job of scoping and managing the work. Good for a defined technical task, harder for an organisation-wide rollout.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI implementation company for a small business?
It depends on what you need implemented. For a fixed-price rollout of a business AI assistant with spend caps, admin controls and training, a fixed-price specialist is the best fit. For workflow automation, a firm that prices automations individually is a better fit. For businesses fully committed to Microsoft, a Copilot specialist is strong. Eligible Australian SMEs should look at the free AI Adopt Centres first.
How much do AI implementation companies charge small businesses?
Published prices in 2026 range from around 1,500 US dollars for an audit and roadmap, through 2,500 to 10,000 for a single quick-win project, to 10,000 to 15,000 for a typical complete engagement at automation-focused firms. Hourly advisory runs from about 100 to 300 US dollars an hour at small-business specialists.
Are AI consulting rankings online trustworthy?
Treat them with care. Most are published by one of the firms being ranked, often placing themselves first. That includes this one. Look for stated criteria, published prices you can check, and honest notes on when to choose someone else.
Should we use a large consultancy like Accenture or Deloitte?
For most businesses under a few hundred people adopting AI tools, no. Large firms are built for large, complex programmes. They are the right choice when you need regulatory depth across jurisdictions, independent assurance, or integration into a major systems programme.
